tank setup

I was thinking of getting a bigger tank. I am going to get a 15 gal. tank in brackish water. I am going to use all of my old stuff. Just a new tank. But right now I have two ten gal. tanks one with females and one with males. I don't want them to breed too much in the big tank, since they will all be together if you guys think it will work, because I am already raising a litter of 31 platies. In the big tank I am going to have a male Platy, a male molly, two male guppies, a female Guppy, and a female molly. Will they breed too much? What if I let the babies stay in the big tank then only some will survive. Is that too harsh?

get biggest tank you can afford..........you'll be happier down the road.........

Agreed. Always look into buying the biggest tank you can afford money and space wize. Something to keep in mind - A larger tank is actually more stable then a small tank, so water chemestry is a little easier to maintain.

The size i would recomend looking into is a 55 gallon - these tanks seem just about right for most beginners and are not Terribley large.

Invest in as large a tank as possible. For reasons already listed regarding water stability, and because eventually you will want to upgrade.

100% with matt, that or you end up with many many small tanks.

i have 3 55s and a 10 gallong - i want a 125! lol or just about any time i see a tank bigger then mine and its a good price im super tempted to buy it!

To answer you question, yes, you will wind up with a lot of of babies with those fish in short order. Tank size won't combat this.

There are fish that you can get that are brackish that should help control or actually completely illiminate all babies from any and all of them unless you seperate them. Only problem is I don't remember what their names right now.

you dont have to get any special kind of fish to eat the babies. just leave them in the tank and the platies, mollies, and guppies will have a snack, something to do, and you wont be over flowing with babies. it isnt "too harsh" as you asked earlier, its just the natural life cycle. "Survival of the fittest"

I am glad you posted crazy because when I had platties and mollies I was over run by babies in short order. The only ones I have found that really controlled their own were my swords and they rarely ever left a baby to survive.

And I agree, it is not cruel, it is a good way to keep them under control and prevent over population.

your right about the fact that youll end up with many small tanks i have 2 ten gal, a two 2 and half tank. I dont think my parents will let me go any higher than 20. I can afford it with my own money though so maby.[/i]
