Ok, my 35g is getting a bit boring, with most of the fish having been moved on to a new home and those left not being that interesting a combination any more. So I was thinking of moving everyone to a new home, and starting again.

I've always concentrated on schools of small fish, and I thought I'd go a bit different and have 2-3 large specimins instead of a shoal of lots of tiddlers. However I know little about larger fish as I've never really looked into them before.

Any suggestions?

This'll be a species tank (well, maybe a few cories on the bottom if they'll fit/be accepted, you gotta have a few cories...) so i'm not to worried about agression as long as they won't kill each other. I'm planning on redecorating too, so we can adjust there as well. So the only limit is big, but not too big!

What you reckon?

Are you wanting to have live plants in the tank, because if you do that will rule a few fish out for starters.

As I say, I'll be re-decorating, I wasn't planning on having much in the way of live plants, perhaps a bit of Java Fern here and there. I'm not too worried about decor to be honest. I'll find a cool fish/s and decorate to suit. Plastic is easier to deal with anyway!

Well, I'd say cichlids would be the way to go with a 35g tank. You'll be able to find an interesting, moderately sized fish.

My current 35g is almost a species tank (with the exception of a few bottom dwellers) and what i have is simply blind cave tetras. they'd look cracking against a black background with dark substrate. You could have all the live plants you wnated, thguh you're not too fussed. When I first got them I didn't think I'd be too impressed but they get quite big (3.5-4") and are the most entertaining fish I've had. very active. hillarious to watch eat and very intersting to watch how they move about and stop just short of bumping into anything and turn away even though they have no eyes.

Probably not what you're looking for, but thought it was worth a mention anyway.

35g is big enuf for some german rams, peaceful and colourful fish...and u can have a few cories as well. make sure u have enuf caves for them to hide and that ure water quality is excellent
