Substrate suggestion please

Im currently using standard gravel but I wish to raise my pH (currently about 6.5) because I have malaysian trumpet snails in the tank. What kind of substrate do you suggest? I was thinking crushed coral maybe? I would like something fine but not to fine to where it gets sucked up in the gravel vac. Thanks a bunch :)


ps... should I even worry about pH by adding substrate?

Aragonite sand should work. You can't do CC because you have the MTS, and the whole reason of having MTS is for the snails to burrow around in sand to prevent dead spots.

im sure the snails can live withought sand. I just put the snails in to make the tank look more interesting and eat some dead material in the tank. I just want somethin the will raise my pH withought the use of chemicals

Also comes in sand as well. I have heard alot of good things about this stuff raising the PH pretty easily to 8.2 or so.

put the crushed coral in your filter instead. thats what most people do anyways. get a filter friendly pouch.

i decided to go with a peice of limestone. Im going to crush the limestone and place it in the filter. Thanks a bunch everyone
