i agree with twistersmom and to add to what was said, how big are the fish ? they will get 6 - 8 inches and as with most cichlids they are messy eaters and big poop machines so bigger water requirements and more filtration are needed. they will also need room to set up territories, so if it's just these 2 fish then imo i would go with at least a 50gal tank. the current tank dosen't have enough filtration, if they plan on keeping them in this tank for awhile, have them get another filter of the same or just bigger. hang on back (h.o.b.) filters should turn over the tank volume of water at least 10 times per hour(i.e. 25 gal tank will need h.o.b.filter(s) that has a gallon per hour rate of 250gph ).

LOL, I can understand that!

His tank has not been set up that long, so I am thinking the sponge cleaning is what set the cycle off.

yeah i dont think they are going to be investing with a 50 gallon aquarium though or another filter...they have an air stone though
