Starting a 5 gallon tank

I am cycling the tank right now and it's dimensions are 16x8x10. It will be planted with anachris plants. Also I have a few fish in mind male betta, dwarf rasbora, neon tetra, African dwarf frog, ghost shrimp, cherry barbs, mystery snails. or celestial pearl danio any thoughts on these fish and inverts in the tank are helpful and can you give me a good combo of any of these fish.

It seems like a good combo, but what fish do you really want in your 5 gallon tank?

Well I would really like neon tetras or cherry barbs and shrimp or frogs for the bottom so what do you think would be good numbers for each.

Congrats! That's exciting!

But... There may be some problems with some of your choices.
Both Cherry Barb (2") and Neon Tetra (1.5") need to be kept in groups, and need more swimming space than a 5g allows.
Celestial Pearl Danio is smaller (0.75"), but needs to be in a group of 20 or more, which a 5g cannot hold.
A Mystery Snail would probably be too much, especially if the fish bioload is high.

A lone male Betta splendens would be perfect!

An African Dwarf Frog, by himself, could work. The smaller the space, the harder it is to keep up on water quality for these sensitive guys, though.

The Dwarf Rasbora could work in a 5g. Get a group as big as you can, the profile recommends 8 but I don't know if a 5g could fit 8.

Shrimp would work well, either buy themselves or possibly with a small school. Shrimp and Betta splendens usually does not work, the Betta often kills them.

Other possibilities, depending on your water parameters:
A trio of Sparkling Gourami
A group of Ember Tetra
A group of Mosquito Rasbora
A lone Dwarf Puffer

O ember tetras could green fire tetras work.

I think the Green Fire Tetra would get too big and be too active, you'd need at least a 10g (pref more) for a species only tank.

I've never heard that CPD's need a large group...

What's your water supply like? Tell us the ph and hardness and then we can reccomend fish. (Much better to find fish that suit your water, than to constantly battle against it.)

redchigh, I think its because of territoriality and in-fighting with males. I've never had them, but I considered them at one point, so researched them. It seems that a larger number of fish spreads the aggressive out some.

Well I decded to just do a male crowntail betta and would 1-2 African dwarf frogs and some ghostshrimp be good for the bottom.

i have a betta and two ghost shrimp and they get along very well together in my 5g. though i dont even think my betta can see them most of the time lol
