Or careless take your pick. I dropped one of the test tubes for the API water testing kits and it shattered. If I use one and then rinse it thoroughly is it ok to use it for 2 different tests? Like pH and ammonia or nitrite and nitrate?

I did exactly the same thing. I had no issues using the same test-tube for different tests, I just rinsed it thoroughly each time.

I think clumsy is a more accurate word.

I use the same tubes for different tests all the time. Rinse thoroughly in between uses though.

The API kit I first had in the 1990's had six tests and 4 tubes that were intended for multiple tests. Just rinse it thoroughly immediately after each test.
