Small tank what to add...

Hi everyone this is a picture of the 3 gallon tank that I have the free betta in I got today and I feel like its missing something. So I am looking for suggestions as to what to add keep in mind it is small about 12 inches long maybe 6 inches tall. The light is awful right now its just a desk lamp with a CFL in it but I plan on replaceing it in a few days with a small flouresant that I saw at Walmart that I could attach to the bottom of the shelf or maybe just lay on top of it.

Not much you can do, maybe snails or shrimp depening on your bettas temperment. Gravel really doesn't fit in, perhaps you could replace that.

You could always add some stones or small driftwood or....

I personally like to have things in my tank that my fish can swim through, for example I have a tire (model, not real obviously) that my zebra danios love to go through as they are quite a playful fish, and to give my tank a slightly natural look I added some driftwood. Driftwood would be good for your tank I think, I prefer natural looks with something to stand out (my tire haha)

Yes, I can see a log-type chunk of wood on the substrate in the left 2/3 of the tank. Something with some interest, rather than a plain "log" in Malaysian Driftwood (the dark brown heavy wood).

Yes. That one is artificial so you would be certain of getting one that looks like the photo. Artifical or real wood, doesn't matter unless you particularly want the wood for organics/tannins etc.
