settling sand/substrate?

Does anybody know a good way to make sand/substrate settle faster?

Did you rinse it out before adding it to the tank? If you didn't the fines will be a major problem.

I agree with Tyy as I just experienced it myself.... then subsequently solved the problem in less than one hour.

The sand said not to rinse it because it is the african cichlid substrate that has some special live water in it.

I used good old fashioned play sand in my African tank (well rinsed and fresh from the store). Eventually the sand will settle, however, keep in mind most cichlids like to rearrange their homes to their liking, which is not always what you have pictured My African tank and my husband's Central/South American tank both have sand in it, and well, we totally wasted our time trying to level it out and make it pretty, the fish had a total different design in mind! Bottom line, with sand and cichlids the majority of the time you will have a nice clean, clear tank, but whenever they decide to do some major renovating the stir it right back up!
