Some fish with scales can tolerate a certain small amount of salt (less than brackish or marine tanks) for a short period of time, but organisms in the water (for example ich) can not.

No, this is not something you should use on a regular basis, only in the course of treatment of some specific diseases.

Not unless you are doing a brackish tank.
