i bought some polished river rocks from craft store. was going to put some in my tank just now & i read tag it said not to use in aquariums. can i use them? i thought i read on here that different people have used things from craft stores with no ill effect.
I wouldn't use anything from a craft store, and especially if the product warns of using it in a fish tank. These rocks may be coated with something toxic.
River rock that you collect in a flowing stream is usually safe, or you can buy them from a landscape or quarry place, provided they are untreated in any way. I have some of these in a couple tanks.
What he said. Many things can go either way, but when something specifically says not for aquarium use, it's usually for a reason. Many coatings that make things look polished or shiny do not hold up in water, dissolve and can pollute the water.
