question about compatibility of dwarf gouramis

My LPS just got in some dwarf gouramis and I was wondering if one or two of these can be kept in an aquarium with platies and mollies. It's a 45 gallon tall, and at the moment I only have a few fish (two mollies, three platies) and I'm waiting to get a quarantine tank set up before I bring any new fish in. The store was really busy at the time so I didn't get the chance to ask one of the employees if these species are ok together. I've done some research and everything I've read said they do well in community tanks but some can become aggressive. So does anyone on this forum have dwarf gouramis with platies and/or mollies? Any information would be very appreciated.

Have a look at the profile of this fish, click on the shaded name Dwarf Gourami. It explains what you've asked, and also mentions that this species is often diseased. You have to be careful with dwarf gourami purchased in stores.

Thanks for pointing that out. Sounds like it would be too much of a risk that I'm not willing to take. I've had enough trouble with sick fish as it is.

I have dwarf gourami with molly and giant Danio they are doing fine :D But Dwarf gouramis are territorial.

I had two dwarf gouramis in a 67 g tank with 3 mollies. The two gouramis claimed territories on opposite ends of the tank from each other and pretty much ignored each other. The two female mollies ignored the gouramis, but the male is a constant pest. When not chasing the female mollies, he would go back and forth between the two gouramis chasing them around and occasionally nipping at them. One gourami died on Friday... I'm not sure if it was from stress or if it was diseased or what... the male molly seems to be pestering the remaining gourami less, but even still, i'm thinking of seeing if the store will take him back.

My Dalmatian Sailfin male molly really giving my female molly a hard time. Specially when its time to eat. Looks like I have to get some more female for him.
