Hi. I'm going to jump in here... I also own an Eclipse, actually two of them. They are great, but in my opinion it's the BioWheel which makes it great. There are only a few problems that I've run into and one being the gunk on the wheel and the impellor getting easily slowed down. I thought you may want to think about doing a fully planted tank with because if you get any free floating stuff bi-products it will require more maintenance with this filter.
I do like planted tanks though and what I've done is mix live and artificial. It fools the eye so you can't tell which is which.

Also, I do use the product they talk about, BioSpira. Worked like a charm to get 0 ammonia overnight without chemicals. That is my experience anyway.
