problem with snails

Anyone have any idea of how to get rid of snails that have over took my tropical tank there are hundreds of the things now I have been told assassin snails but can't seem to buy them anywhere and I work away so piece of veg and taking it out in the morning is out of the question

I was infested with pond snails and I just let them grow to a certain size, then took out 80, yes I counted them as I took them out. I just dropped them into a dish and they dried out. The remaining 20 or so have grown larger but I've never seen any new ones. That has been well over 5 months now. Hope that helps.

Cheers but I have well over 80 the bottom of the tank is a joke and plants are covered any idea where u can buy assassin snails ?????

Have you tried Ebay, I did a search just then and plenty of results came up - quite cheap too I've had snails posted to me before and they're fine!

Excess snails are a result of overfeeding. Cut back on your feeding and make sure you get any dead plants bits off the substrate, and the snails will take care of themselves.

I actuly buy thoes snails from the pet store. I have a green spotted puffer, fiddler crabs and red crabs that eat em. They cant get enough of em. THe people at the pet store thought I was crazy asking to buy them becouse they are an invasive species but my fish eat em up

Very true. Remove snails by hand, and don't feed your fish for a few days. If you have a ton of snails, you're feeding too much. Your fish will be fine without food for 2-3 days. Watch your fish, and only feed what is totally consumed in 3 minutes.

I have to contridict the coulpe days thing as all tropical fish have a 14 day internal food reserve but the result for going without feedin them that long is scronny slightly unhealthy fish so 14 days = 2 weeks also i personaly would not go to this extreme but at least a week could help as not to worry and i have the 14 day as a fact in a book and it is permantly burned in my head so i have proof to back me up written down also i know what book it is so yeah.... 14 days max reserve but go a week at max to keep healthy reserve supply and prevent starving also to cut down overfeeding and this should also help control anymore snail reproduction and population hopfully they die off bit by bit by doing this hope this helps
