It wont have live plants, and my pet shop isn't open today... is there some sort of chemical i can buy at lets say walmart that will help? Water conditioner?
| I don't know what Walmart in the US carries. You need water conditioner if you are using tap water, to deal with chlorine, etc. But this has nothing to do with the cycling aspect. Quote: |
Can i transfer the water from the 5 gallon since that water has sustained the fish for about a week now? It would dilute the tap water?
| This has little value. I explained in post # about the bacteria on surfaces.
I still do not advise moving the fish at all, yet. The 5g tank has not fully cycled after just a week with fish, and this is stressful enough on them. Moving them into an even newer tank will only make it worse. Unless that tank is properly cycled.
Cycling means there are live plants, or a colony of bacteria, or both present. Whichever, this will take up the ammonia which is toxic.
