Newly set up Tropical fish aquarium..4 fishes dead aleady ..Please help

48 hours is still not a good enough time to add fish. Weeks is needed primarily. One rule that I live by is to never trust the fish store. Come here for your questions and info. Ill just restate like some people on here mentioned already that your tank simply isnt cycled. its the benificial bacteria that grow in the gravel, the ornaments and the sponge in your filter that make it possible for your fish to live in an aquarium.

I suggest adding some sort of plant to your setup asap or to just return the fish altogether and lookup a fishless cycle on the forum to help you get that tank cycled.

Finally welcome to TFK . Look around and research alittle so these mistakes happen less. Youll only deal with more problems if you dont realize what to do or make a silly mistake.

How about you update this thread with more of the type of substrate you use, the name of the filter, heater and any ornaments you have in the tank also. Helps us get a better understanding of your tank and makes it possible for us to suggest better products if needed.

add algea to jump start your cycle.might save remaining fish.other than that wait a few weeks,have store test water and start w/ some tetras

Thanks to all you guys.I am yet to go thru all your advices and act upon it.But sadly I found another issue after came from work.One of the Platy has whitish spot near her mouth.I googled and believe it is Ich or something like that.She is not eating also.I have added a pic.Any advices?

I would not say its ich just yet. Ich is a parasite I believe and in it multiplies quickly to the point that theres these little white spots all over your fish. They cant be rubbed off because they are embedded in the slime coat. It always comes from an outside source such as another fish being added to your tank and I usually see it on the fish at my local petco. Since its only one dot, I think its something else or nothing to worry about that someone will hopefully be able to identify. Btw for future references, Ich is easily treatable(meds not needed) and easy to identify since u cant miss a bunch of white spots. Just google ich treatment and there is usually a video to tell u all u need to know about it. just letting you know because you might just have to deal with it one day.

I read that you cleaned your tank, did you use anything to clean your tank besides hot water?

I cleaned the tank just with water the first time we brought it home.Last week, just did a 50 % water change and during that i used a water conditioner.

Unfortunately the Platy with whitish mouth died this morning.Right now, i have 1 sunset Platy in the tank and believe she is doing OK.I will go get PRIME and test kit .One question though, is it ok to add a live plant now?If yes, what would you guys recommend.

Sorry to hear that. Its not easy to determine whether or not it was the spot or if the tank had an ammonia spike. Java Fern, Wisteria, Java Moss, Water Sprite is always a good plant to add, it is safe to add while cycling.

well there are some tropical fish that can live in coldish water .65-75 black skirt tetras, gold skirt tetra and white cloud minnows for example however a heater would be a good idea if u want other fish :)
