you can get a glo fish ( they are zebra danios that come in redish pink oreange and green ) 1 have six in my 100 they are butiful and my fish all lovethem and are very coler ful

What are the chances of getting a larger tank? I was in the same boat as you when I got a 3 gallon tank for my daughter for Christmas two years ago. As you can see from my join date, I found this site right after I got the tank, and realized I needed a much larger tank if I wanted more than a Betta. Two years later, the 3 gallon tank is gone, and I have 3 larger thanks, although I still keep wanting newer and bigger tanks. I did promise my wife I wouldn't get any new tanks until we finish converting our basement into a family room. I plan on getting a 155 gallon tank when it's finally done, which may be awhile.

Anyway, the moral of the story is if you've truly been bitten by the fish keeping bug, you'll eventually fill every empty space in your house with a new tank.

I still live at home with my parents so the reason I started off with a small tank is because it was sitting in the attic and they gave me the if you can take care of a hamster we will get you a dog. I want to upsize to at least a 30 but I have found that I have fell in love with the size of a 75g.

That Betta has been in there 6 months with no issues so far.... but now I am paranoid about him jumping out

Sorry didn't mean to freak you out about the Betta jumping, I just know they do because in the wild they launch themselves out of puddles to catch insects and will do the same in a tank, clingfilm over the top?

Today i received my API master Freshwater test kit in the mail and my water parameters are NH3 is 1ppm, pH is 7.6, nitrite an nitrate are 0, temp is 75F. My next question is the tank has been cycling for about a week now how long till i begin to see nitrite build up.

It varies due to all sorts of factors. Normally, cycling is anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks.

If ammonia is 1 and there are fish, do a partial water change, use a conditioner that detoxifies ammonia (not all do). One that also handles nitrite will be good, there are two I know of that do both, Seaqchem's Prime and Aquarium Solutions Ultimate. If you have live plants, this will reduce the cycling and may eliminate it completely with enough plants and a few fish.

If you already use a conditioner that detoxifies ammonia, then ignore the water change. Detoxifiers work by changing ammonia to harmless ammonium. Plants and bacteria use ammonia/ammonium together, and test kits will show both as "ammonia."
