You can buy black sand but it is expensive. A cheaper alternative is common playsand from Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. It is darkish gray dry, and in the tank looks a bit light but it does take on a darker hue as it "ages." I now have it in 4 tanks and use it for any new setup. A 55lb bag is a few dollars. Needs lots of rinsing to get all the dirt out, but once in the tank it is a very natural substrate, and corys love it. A few dried leaves on the sand will create an even more authentic aquascape for the mentioned fish.
