New Tank. Not sure how to set up filter.

Its Drilled and the set up that came with it seems to be very rigged. I want to do it right. I think it has 1" bulkheads. 2 of them drilled in the center of the tank. This is the first time I have owned a drilled tank and have no clue what I'm doing with that kind of set up. My first thoughts was to plug the bulk heads and just pick up a FX5.

from the pictures it looks like you have some sort of top off system there that ties into your house's water line. the tank is obviously drilled. was there another tank type thing that came with it that had like compartments filled with media?

This is the filter. Like I said I think its a rigged system. I want to do it right, to make it easy to maintain. this is how he filted the tank. I will say that the water was fairly clear, but when we took it down today there was so much crap in the stone. VERY DIRTY. The piece of pipe you see cut was the return which ran out the back of the stand, up the back outside of the tank and went back in at the top.

The two tall cut pipes seen in this picture is what was attached to the bulk heads, which both fed into the tiny pump. when thought the filter, through the heater and then to the return. I was hoping that one hole could be used for the filter and the other for the return. At this point I have no clue what I'm doing with a drilled tank.

ok i see how this works now, the two top pipes look like the down flow, the white cylinder thing "should" have some sort of media inside it and the brown thing i have no idea what that is.

Do this screw in the bulk heads, connect tubing to them and fit them to the two upright pipes there. then the pipe closest to the filter fix a tube to it and run it to a spray bar and put that into the aquarium near the top (Above the water line). Fill the tank about half way with water whiule its outside and test it. everything should work then.

Its like a closed sump type thing and should work perfect for your bio/mech filtration. might wanna crack open the "filter things" and check the media inside as from the looks of things it is probobly crazy clogged with who knows what.

Got the rotted wood replaced on the stand. Here is what the whole set up looks like.

I'm quite sure that I will be buying an FX5 and running it off the drilled holes. Using one for the feed and the other for the return.
