New Tank Location

Hello,
I am in the process of getting a new tank, and I really only have one wall that I can put it on in my living room. Below is a picture of the wall that I am looking at putting the aquarium. Am I going to have issues with this location? I can fit up to a 36" long tank along this wall.

The only issue that comes to my mind is that being at the end of a wall (with an alcove to the left) it is "out in the room" and it seems there are kiddies around. To me that means the possibility of knocking into it--and knocking it over. Otherwise, fine...you have an outlet there which is good, and the light from the windows shouldn't be a problem with shades.

I agree with Byron, it could work, with-out a doubt....but it will kind of look "out off the wall". WIth the kids around, you might run into the bumping issues.

It would work no problem, it's all personal preference with how much it will come out into the room....maybe set the tank and stand up empty to get a feel for how it will look, is that the only wall you have available?

I'd prefer a corner, especially with a lot of kids. Looks like your idea got hacked thanks to those kiddie toys in the picture!

Well that is the only wall what will house a tank. I will have to set it up and see how it looks before I complete the setup. Thanks for all the input. My kiddos are 5 and 1 so I don't know how much bumping tanks can take.

Hmm...I'd like to see a one year old, or even a five year old, knock over a full 46 gallon bowfront on a sturdy stand. Unless your kids are miniature Incredible Hulks, I just don't see that being a big issue.

How much light do you get through those windows? If the tank gets a lot of sun exposure you could get algae problems.

I agree that it is a bit "out in the room" but if that's your best wall, better one tank than none, right?

The blinds on the window to the right stay closed for the most part. And even when they are open there isn't that much direct sun light. Also figured if I did want to open them I would cover that end of the tank.

Kids like to climb. In the event one of them decided to pull a chair up to the tank and then climb to get a better look at the fish. I can almost envision the chair slipping out from under the child ,or being pulled from under the child ,and the child is then hanging from the side of the tank.
With that said,, At five years old,, they are old enough to understand that this should not ever take place.

I know I am new to this but it seems to me the consensus is kids and aquariums don't mix. I also know that kids will be kids and I do have a pretty good handle on them. It seems to me that beings a 29 gallon tank filled has the potential to weight over 350lbs and the stands are designed to hold that much weight I would think they should be able to handle a kid bumping into it every now and then. I look at it as if I don't get one then how are they ever going to learn to leave it alone and only look at the fish, and believe me I don't think I will have to worry about them climbing on it.

I agree with you in regards to bumping into the tank, Shouldn't be an issue. And Am pleased that the chances of what I described are slim.
Having worked for the local school district for the last eleven years,, I have found kids dangling from coat hooks in restrooms ,and classrooms ,and even flag poles on occasion. I am also painfully aware that parents seldom appreciate any thing remotely resembling criticizim. constuctive,,or otherwise.I was merely attempting to present a possible scenario that you may or may not wish to consider. I am sure your little nosepickers, errr Cherubs, are just darlings.
