New tank

Ok my birthday is coming up in April. I'm gonna try and get a bigger tank than the one I have. I want one bigger than 55 gallons, but one that is not too big. I also want this tank to be heavily planted becuase I think those look cool. 8) I'm trying to get everything planned out so I know what I want when the time comes around. Any ideas for: what size tank, filters, etc. Also what kind of fish can go in that size and what type of tank I should have. Saltwater is to expensive so obviously I'm going freshwater. Thanks

75 will give you more space in the tank but it's not soon much longer or wider than the 55. It's much taller though. For a planted tank a canister filter would be good since you can choose what you put in the filter so you don't even need carbon but your tank will stay just as clean if not cleaner. Large plecos and cichlids will tend to tear plants up so you might want to stay away from them. What do you like? Livebearers? Dwarf cichlids? At that size tank your really open to many many choices. Make sure you get good lighting, it will go far.

.....a 75 is the same length and height as a 55, it's 6" deeper front to back....but yes, a 75 would probably be the best size tank for you

hmm yeah 75 sounds good. I don't think I want to do cichlids because truth be told I don't really like them all that much...I like fish that are colorful so I would probably be more interested in some sort of large tropical community tank? Or something like that.

Tetras, rasboras, corydoras, plecos, danios, barbs, apistogrammas and rams. Please let us know which ones you selected.

Thanks for all your help so far.
I do like all of those suggstions...
I think I would like some rams, barbs, maybe tetras I'm not sure quite yet, and I'm also unsure about rasboras. I like all of them. No danios I don't think even though they are super hardy.
One questions on the apistogrammas does that include cichlids or are you just talking the assorted kind? Because I looked them up and saw some cichlids are in that family (Panda dwarf, Orange Cockatoo, Double Full Red Agassizi, and Double Full Red Cockatoo, there's much more) Not to be hypocritical or anything but I have to admit those were pretty cool looking. Oh wait now I feel dumb...they are a species of cichlids oops :D
And for bottom feeders I have always liked corys, plecos, and pictus. Would any of these be able to be combined? Or would I have to just get one type?

Oh and what about swordtails, rainbowfish, and killifish would they fit in?

Oh and I found something else out and feel even dumber . Rams are cichlids...I had seen them before and didn't know they were. woops. My opinon towards cichlids is slowly changing.... :D

Oh and I just remebered another quick question.
Would glofish school with tetras? Woah I just found out their gentically altered!?! (I was researching while I was typing)
So what's up with glofish? I saw them at a LFS and thought they were cool but expensive, now I don't know. Would they be ok for my tank and do you guys think they are fish that shouldn't be bought?
