New to large tanks

I am buying a 150 gallon tank and a Eheim Pro II 2028 canister filter. I will not be using an under gravel filter system like I have used in the past on smaller tanks. I plan on using this tank for Cichlids. I have been doing some reading around and looked at a lot of tank setups and I think I want to go with a sand bottom. Many people seem to think that is the way to go and it does look pretty nice. What I am wondering about are two things.

1 - AIR: is the canister filter able to provide enough circulation to provide enough are in a tank this size? Or am I going to require further methods to maintain a good oxygen level for the fish.

2 - Waste: With a sandy bottom allot of waste will not just sift between the grains of sand and decompose like it would with a Under Gravel Filter. Is the canister filter going to remove allot of that waste from the circulation it provides in the tank allowing the waste to get filtered out in the canister? I assume regular cleanings of the sand will be required but is it done the same way as gravel?

I keep a large Cic tank, Firstly what variety of Cic and what type of sand matey ? :D
As for the air I'm not to familiar with the Ehiem, but does it have a spraybar ?

Personally I think you cannot really over oxyginate(is that a word ) or over filtrate.

Im considering play sand natural color. and yes it has a spray bar.

Don't go down the play sand avenue if your using a spraybar. In fact don't a tall !!!!

What type of Cics ?
