New additions

Today i visited my lfs and took then some assasin snails to thin out the population. They also requested som Cherry red shrimp aswell. Take them next time.

I couldnt resist getting some new additions to my tanks tho so i got the following

8 x marble hatchet fish theyve gone into the top tank with congo tetras, rummynose tetras, yoyo, gold bristlenose plec and CRS. They have settled in so very well already. One congo thought they were food when 1st added but it moved to quick and now they realised there not food! Im pleased with them there colors have come out well

4 x Golden gouramis theyve gone into my bottom tank with neon tetras and opaline gouramis. In the lfs they just looked a pastel yellow but within 20mins of being in there new home there color is so bright! They glow! They are settling in well and the heirachy is being decidede amongst them and the opalines, all quite friendly but alot of chasing is going on!

So pleased with both purchases and hope to watch them for a long time to come

Iv just thought instead of going for cichilids in a new aquarium i have got waiting to be set up, whats the thoughts of doing a super tank and put the inhabitants of my 2 tanks into the 1?
The new tank is the equivelant of both the tanks i have set up already
They are 48 x 15 x 12 and new 1 is 48 x 24 x 24

Feedback on this idea and possible problems of having them all together also possible other tank mates, stocking issues

4 x opaline gouramis
4 x gold gouramis
10 x congo tetras
35 x neon tetras
8 x marble hatchet fish
4 x rummynose tetras ( want to increase the group to 17)
1 x yoyo loach ( ideally want to get 5 more)
1 x golden bristle nose plec

Cherry red shrimp

I really need help deciding on this one im getting a headache trying to decide for myself!!

I would not combine these fish, they have quite different requirements.

Gourami are sedate fish and should not be combined with active swimmers like the Congo Tetra.

Also, I have seen Blue Gourami ["Opaline" is a variety, same species] hunt down (in a pair) neon tetra and devour them fast. The gourami were no where near full size either [this was in a store tank containing about five gourami and a quickly-dwindling group of neons].

I must have fish so against the norm! I appriciate your comment and take it on board. My shoal of Neons actually are in the same tank as the Gouramis and there so releaxed together, also not lost a sibgle 1 to date and its been over 6 months. As for the active Congos i dare say the ones i have are the laziest Congos ever then! All the seem to do is float at the front of the tank watching what im doing! I dont think theyve managed to swim the 4ft length yet! I guess things could change with there behaviours in time but for as long as iv had all my fish theyve been closely watched and there traits are seen. I shall not dismiss your advice tho Byron as said before it is appriciated

Yeah. Gouramis can get extremely agressive when mixed with other fish. I guess you could try it, but it's definately a gamble with delicate hatchets and small tetras. Also, It depend what gender the gouramis are. I'd say there's more risk if you have male and female gouramis, as they get especially agressive at breeding time.

Im kinda lucky i have the ones i have, never had any outbreaks and they all have os very different personalities! The gouramis favourite thing to do at the moment is to chase each other, never see any aggression from them tho. The neons are all roughly about and inch in size now and they just get along, dont bother each other at all. The gouramis wont even pester the CRS!
