New 55 Gal Set-up

:D Got our new 55 Gal set-up going last night. Using a Rena Filstar xP3 and Visi-therm 200 watt. No fish yet, but they will come with time as the cycle permits. LFS guy told me I would only have to wait 24 hrs but I would rather wait for the cycle. Used water from our Betta tank to get it started. I will take nos. later to see how all goes.

We really like how quiet the filtration system is. We are using the ceramic rings in 2 layers and bio-stars in one. I had purchase both so we will try them to see how each gathers bio.

Also have purchased the Python. WOW!! I have had aquariums since a child and always did it the old way with the bucket. What a breeze this is going to be!!! Diane

congrats!!! :D dont you just love quiet filters?
what kind of fish do you plan on getting for your tank? are you using live or fake plants? what kind of substrate? we would love to see some pics when you get it going!

:D I am going to go with a hopefully harmonius community setting. I have ordered Cardinal tetras from my fish guy to get me started. I have always liked them. My Hubby likes the fancy Guppies and Swords. He also likes the African Ciclids but I told him we cannot have those in this tank ( HINT HINT) I have also had the less-aggressive Ciclids like Angels and Severums in past tanks and hope to have those again.
I am using as "near as real" plants right now. I never really had any luck with the real deal, but I am saving a center spot for an Amazon Sword plant hopefully. I will post a pic when all is ready. Thanks for your interest!! Diane

wow sounds like it will be a very beautiful tank when it all comes tigether! you should also think about getting some cherry barbs.

I have a Python too, and I can only think of all the back breaking water changes in the past.

Youth must have played a part when I cleaned the 5 tanks I used to have!! I had a 55 gal, 2 - 30's, a 10 and a 5. What a lot of water to tote.

yeah i still have to carry water back and forth and it is sooo annoying! i only have one 29 gallon tank. i cant imagine having to do 5 tanks like that!

I still carry the water to my 55 gal tank 2 gallons at a time. I am not looking forward to doing so when I get the 75 gallon. But this weekend, I set up a friend of mine's 55 gal tank. The biggest water carrying container he had was about one gallon and the closest sink was up a flight of stairs...needless to say I was exhausted at the end of that adventure.

Aww man, that reminds me of having fish in my dorm room. Walking ALL the way down the hall to the restroom, and using the shower to fill the bucket because the sink didn't have any pressure. Luckily now I have a python, and my tank's not more than 10 feet from my kitchen sink :D
