New 20 gallon Aquarium

I just bought a 20 gallon aquarium the other day, and decided to run a freshwater tank instead of another saltwater tank. I would like the option of adding live plants later. I am ordering a MarineLand C-220 Canister filter soon. Before I order the lighting, I need to know if I can get away with a regular fluorescent strip, or if I need something special since I want to add plants. If I need something special, please also give me a model. (The tank it 30" long) thanks!

i think you will be limited on the array of plants you can have
with regular lighting.
T5s are a popular light,i myself have these on my freshwater tank.
i'm not very adventurous with plants,however that;s just me.
