Neon Worms

Recently one of my roommates fed my red devil and my oscars some neon worms that he had bought at a bait shop. I have fed them worms from a bit shop in the past and everything was fine (as far as I knew) but these were neon worms designed to be used when fishing at night (they have something in them that makes them glow neon green) and now the water in the tank has a neon green tint to it. This was almost a week ago and the fish seem fine but the color doesn't seem to be getting much lighter. I did a 20% water change yesterday and that seemed to clear it up a little bit of course. I was wondering if anyone has ever fed these to aquarium fish before or knows if whatever was in the worms to make them glow is harmful to the fish. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

The stuff that is in them is completely safe for fish. It has been tested in labs and the field to make sure it is. There is some sort of element in the feed that is tranfered to the skin of the worms that makes them glow in sunlight. They don't glow in the dark. The green pigment reacts with sunlight and causes almost an aura that makes the worm easier to see.

The only way you are gonna get it out is to do water changes. I doubt it will dicipate and short of a diatom or micron filter I doubt the filter media will remove it.

Would be interesting to see if the oscars develope some coloring to them from it although it should be very short term as the worms don't hold the coloration more than a couple week if they don't get the feed regularly.
