Need suggestions to stock my 10 gallon tank.

I just started up a 10 gallon freshwater tank and I need help deciding what kind of fish to stock my tank with. I definitely want neon tetras for sure, but I do not know what else to purchase. any help will be greatly appreciated. please help an enthusiastic noob out. here is a link to my fish tank Freshwater 10 gallon - 10 gallon Freshwater fish tank

We need to know pH and hardness( found on your water suppliers website) before we can properly suggest fish.

But there are many species or dwarf tetra or rasbora that would work in that size tank . I have ember tetra in mine and I really like them, plus any of the dwarf corys.

I have 2 ten gallon tanks myself. They can be tricky to stock and still feel like you have a tank that is full of life and movement, but it can be done. Yours looks beautiful, by the way!

I love corydora catfish. There are a lot of varieties out there, not all stores will carry many types. The stores around me mostly stock peppered, albino, and if I'm lucky I can find pandas. I've had the best luck with peppered. They are bottom feeders, but they can get very active during the evening. They do best in groups of at least 3.

I've had a lot of trouble with neon tetras so I've decided to stay away from those. But they are also schooling fish, so get 5 or 6 of those.

Unfortunately for a 10 gallon tank you can't get too much more than that. I have had mollies and platies in my tanks, they don't need to be in groups. They are also a bit larger and add some color and size to your tank. Sunburst and Red Wag platies are a good choice.

Read the fish profiles at the top of the forum for any fish you're thinking of adding to make sure it will do well in your tank. Water hardness and pH may make a big difference between fish thriving or slowly dying in your tank.

I also have a single female betta in one of my tanks. This doesn't always work, if you're new to bettas do a LOT of research before adding one, they can be tricky.

Welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

You can fill a 10g tank with smallish fish as has been suggested, and have so much variety and interest it will amaze you, in such a small space. The trick is staying with small fish. When we know your water parameters we can suggest some, or refer you to our fish profiles [second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top of the page].

I might suggest a different fluorescent tube for your light, one that will be better for the plants [great to see live plants] and fish colours. What type do you have now; I'm assuming it is a fl tube?
