Need help deciding on substrate for new tank

Hey guys,

I am setting up a new 40gallon tank and I wanted a black sand substrate and was looking at what is available at the stores and found one that I like. But my question is will it be plant friendly?

The substrate that I'm considering is CaribSea Instant Aquarium Tahitian Moon Gravel or Eco-Complete™ Planted Black.

Anyone using one of these with plants? Your input will be very helpful in my decision. Thanks!

Eco-complete would be more plant friendly. Is clay based product with some micronutrient's that plant's can benefit from.
Tahitian moon sand,is sharp product and would not be what I would choose if bottom dwelling fishes such as loaches,cory's or pleco's were to be placed over it . Also contains no clay,or nutrient's I don't believe.

I use Eco-Complete Black in my 5g and 125g and I love it.
