my water in so cloudy

ok i have a channel catfish in a 20 gallon tank I already know that the fish tank is to small for the fish but its just until i can get a lot larger tank for him considering he is 12 " long but i won't be getting a tank for a while or until i can find someone to give him to. but the little tank i have him in now is so cloudy and i have no idea and i can do freshwater fish tanks very well its saltwater tanks i have a problem with and i have put clarity in the tank and even took the catfish out and put him in a bucket and did a 50 to like 60% water change and it was clear for the first couple days could it be because he is in such a small tank he need help and if you know anyone in the USA that would want a 12" channel catfish tell me and we might be able to work something out

I'm sorry to say this but the ONLY thing you can do is take that fish back to the store.

You will need at LEAST a 180g tank for it as they can get to 2-4ft long and weigh almost 60lb's...they are very fast grows as well.

It will not be happy in a 20g tank for long.

What are your water parameters, ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite.

What do you use as substrate, filter and how much do you feed?

I agree, please take this fish back, even if it is for them to look after while you get a tank of the above size.

the place i bought it won't take back fish. and i hate having it in that tank also but i mean I'm not going to get another 55 gallon fish tank. but it is warming pup where i live and when it warms up a little bit more i can release him into a huge lake that has other channel catfish so its not illegal at least i don't think so i mean its not like I'm putting a different species of fish into a lake that doesn't have any of that kind is it if it is then don't know what to do but i don't think its illegal where i live because the people at the pet store told me thus what i should do

Pet stores wont take them back because if they dont sell them, they simply do not have the room to keep them to adulthood.

I would find out from your local Environmental Officer if it is illegal or not...you risk an enormous fine if you get caught and it is illegal.

ill post the pictures in my tanks because i have no clue of to put them in the message board and i have decided i will got this weekend and release him into a lake near my house and it has many channel catfish so it won't mess up the ecosystem there and they also stalk it full of catfish and bass and small fish for him to eat
