Making your own tank scrubber?

I'd like to make my own inexpensive tank side scrubber.
I already have one, but I use it when I really have to scrub down a tank, and I'd like one that I can use solely for my community tank.
I figured it's just sticking a sponge to a stick, but how do you sterilize the sponge?

I don't think a scrubber is the same a sponge. the Green Brillo pads might be too rough for the glass and normal sponges are too soft. You will need to find something in between. If your tank is acrylic, none of these options are viable as it would ruin your tank.
