Major Bone-Head Move!

I was cleaning the front of my tank last night. I had some green algae spots that were not coming off with the soft cloth I normally use. I used what I thought was an acrylic safe scrub pad. I now have very fine swirly scratches all over the front of the tank. Major Bummer. Is there anything I can do to remove these swirls? Probably not but thought I'd ask.....

So, I take it you have an acrylic aquarium? If they are scratch marks, then i'm sorry to say, that your tank is now scarred...

Unless, there was some chemical substance on the sponge the created the swirls, and it might not be scratched, but if it is chemical residue, I would start moving all my fish to a quarantine tank of some sort...

I was looking thru my doctorsfosterandsmith catalog.. and it seemed to me earlier, I saw soemthing in there about removing scratches. You may want to check their website? just google them.

No chemical on the sponge. I suppose I will try to have it buffed out when I move to the 200 gal but I'm not getting that for about 6 months from now. Oh well, live & learn. Thanks for the advice tho.

If it makes you feel any better when I bought my 20 gallon used, I took it home and really started to look at it... Its completely covered in scratches You can't really see them with water in the tank though, and to be honest I could care less about a few scratches, I'm just glad I have a pretty 20 gallon with all my lovely fish in it :D

You can buff out acrylic scratches but it will require you to take all the water out and spend a little time with the proper acrylic/plastic buffing compounds.
