Lazers in tank???

i put an ad on craigslist asking if any1 had any old aquarium gear they didn't want any more and got a great hit
a guy gave me 4 huge boxes full of great filters power heads like a years worth of all water treatments medications and testers and among all of the stuff was a box with a treasure chest that had a laser in it with a bubbler to make it open about ever 2 secs and it also came with 2 other lasers and 2 led lights with a "circuit board type thing" or power supply
on the box it said that the lasers will help the color of my tropical fish and other stuff like that

is this true?

give me some feed back if u have any experience with these or know how they effect fish

angels are on right side chillen by the green light

one angel was straight chillen in the laser

also i gave them medication tonight idk if it effects that i gave them stuff that makes their fins heal made from like some type of leaves



i really hope im not hurting my fishys right now
im more of a doer then a thinker.....

I'm baffled that someone would do this to their fish (not talking about you here..).

It's one thing to have diff. colored lights but lasers? Did they throw in a disco ball? That has to be stressful to the fish.

If it were me, I would def. not use them. This is for show and I can't think of any benefit at all to a fish.

Having said that, I also have no real idea if they're actually stressful to fish. I know I wouldn't want lasers shooting around my house LOL.

I don't think they have laser lights in the Amazon. I wouldn't even consider using such an unnatural thing in my tanks.

I know lasers can damage human eyes, even the smallest cat laser toy can do damage. I cant imagine they'd be great for fish eyes either. :O

This is very bad, get rid of them (the lights I mean).

I see I need to get working on the article I have been thinking of writing about fish eyesight and the effects of light. It will open some members' eyes. Fish eyes are very sensitive to light.

In very general terms, most fish (especially forest fish such as your angels, tetra, etc) occur in very dim waters. Light over such tanks should always be the minimum necessary--for instance, those of us with planted tanks need a minimum light intensity for the plants. Anything beyond what is minimum may be detrimental to the fish long-term (some factors play into this).

the box said it was good for the fishes fins thats y i put it in i had to take my tiger barbs out because they were nipping the angels fins

Some manufacturers will do anything to make a buck. Get rid of that crazy gizmo for the sake of your fish.
