So glad that you rescued them. I did not know the shelter took fish. Petco will take fish or pets to adopt out. They are so nice looking. How lucky they are to go into a nice 55 gal. aquarium as they can get up to 6" big.I would not put angelfish in anything smaller then a 30 gal. for a pair. Lucky you already have a mated pair. Most people have to get 5 or more and wait til they pair up and rehome the others that do not pair up. Nice pictures of your tank. I was wondering why you did not buy Bushy Nosed Plecos at the fish store. I have them in all my tanks and they only get about 4" big full grown. I would trade out the bigger plecos for the smaller ones as you know those ones you have get really really large. When they get so large they are hard to rehome them. I have long finned albino bushy nose plecos.I posted a picture.A tank that size you can get 3 BN plecos.
In the picture in the back I have a black plastic plumbers pipe for them to go in I got at Home Depot. They also like Cholla wood that I bought on
www.Aquabid.com. If you can't fine BN plecos you can get them on Aquabid. Mine are tiny babies as my friend raises them. They grow very slow and the great thing is they stay small in size 4-5" max. I like the long finned ones as their fins are like butterflys when they get long but they have shortfinned BN.
Keep us posted if the eggs hatch from the angelfish. My friend used to breed angelfish. If they are in a community tank the fry get eaten. The angelfish will protect the fry but most end up like food unless taken out to grow in a grow out smaller tank. Get more plants. They like alot of plants at all levels.
Vallisneria is a good easy low light plant (Long & Tall ) looks like kelp and grows fast. It can be cut in any length. I have it in all my tanks. They also have a Spiral Val that looks the same but grows in a spiral.
www.sweetaquatics.com has alot of plants that is mail order. It's a good website if you want to look up plants and the care of them before buying them at a local fish store. In fact you can see the Vallisneria in the picture I posted of my BN pleco in the background.
Here is a website that my friend that used to get supplies from called Angels+. They have great food and medicated flake food also which is really nice. I bought some food and medicated flakes from them. They also sell angelfish and you may be able to tell what kind you have by the pictures. The owner Steve is really nice also as I asked him a question and he gets back to you right away. He has alot of experience in Angelfish. Here's the website:

What area are you from? I can look up aquarium clubs in my Tropical Fish magazine by State or country. Those places are the best to get nice plants at. Mine has a mini auction before each meeting and that is where I switched out all my plastic plants for real plants. i do keep a couple of red plastic plants in the background as I have low light and red plants require a higher wattage to get the red color.
