I need some input on my situation

Okay, first of all I'd like to say hello to everyone. I currently have a 30g setup that has been running for about 5 months now. When I set it up I had no idea as to what the "Nitrogen Cycle" was. But all my fish are still alive, so I got lucky I guess.

Currently I'm setting up a 120g tank right next to the 30g. I put some of the filter media into the new filter on the 120g. Along with a decent amount of gravel and a piece of drift wood.

I've been monitoring the Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate now for a couple of days. I added some ammonia because I'm doing the fishless cycle. I just did a test and these are my results.

Ammonia- 1.0ppm
Nitrite- 0ppm
Nitrate- 10ppm

I never got a Nitrite reading... Ever, so that's why I'm a bit confused. Can anyone help me out please?

Hello! Welcome to the forum. Well, seeding bacteria definitely puts the cycle in motion quickly and I'll bet that's why you didn't get that nitrite reading. I never did see a nitrite spike in any of my tanks during fishless cycling. I'd say once that ammonia goes down to zero you'll be ready.

Can't wait to see your tanks once you set up profiles for them!

+1 what Steph said. At the end of the cycle you should have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites. Since there is still an ammonia reading keep adding the ammonia.
