I got a new (tall) aquarium today

It's used and I got all of this for $5. I'm not sure

a) what fish to put in (when cycled!!!)

b) how to use the filter or if it's appropriate.

I'm also not sure about the size of the aquarium :eek: But will find out later.

The deodorant is for perspective lol. The tank is sitting in my tub atm. I just put hot water in it to give it a rinse and make sure it doesn't leak.



And the tape residue is on the outside




Hood. It takes one compact bulb.

Filter. I don`t know how this one works or if it has a strong current for some fish. Or how to change the filter. Or where to buy the filter :eek:

Any feedback on this stuff would be appreciated. Also, I never had plants when I cycled before. When do I add them.

I ordered a piece of driftwood, a marimo moss ball, anubias nano and java fern online that I`m waiting for. iw as thinking about putting htem in this tank.

looks like a fun tank, that is tall you might want some tall plants like dwarf onion plants or contortion valls or other tall things. what is the wattazge of the light and what is the color specrem (god i cant spell it)!

I don`t think it`s quite as tall as it looks. I measured it. It`s 14 inches long. 8.5 inches deep and 13 inches high. About five gallons too. I dont`know what the bulb is supposed to take but it looks the same as my current one. I put a compact fluorescent in. It`s 13 w and cool white or 41000K. Maybe I`ll put it by a window lol

I`m thinking I`ll just put a betta in it and maybe something on the bottom but I don`t know what is small and doesn`t need to be in groups. And is content with a betta.

eta: Sorry. I figured out how to open up the Elite filter and it has just black, stiff sponge in it the pointy part and then some gravel and whatever else locked in the other section. Is this normal

Can you take a picture of the underneath side of the lid?
And also the inside and back of the filter and media?

The bottom part of the filter where the sponge is must come apart.

I wouldn't recommend putting it next to a window! Not sure if you were only joking though...

Sure I'll take pics tomorrow. I was joking about the window but we don't get direct sun really so I don't think it would be a big problem if I did.

That would make a cool tank for all sorts of stuff. Bettas, dwarf puffers, maybe a shrimp farm, scarlet badis, etc.

Yes, but wait until the tank is well established, say 2-3 months. Don't know if you noticed them in my 90g on Saturday when you were over, but I have a shoal of 9 Corydoras pygmaeus and 10 C. habrosus. When these are added to new tanks I have usually lost most if not all of them; but in established tanks they always survive. Very sensitive, more-so than most of the larger corys. They require not only a cycled tank but one where the water is stable. Fluctuations in pH common in newer tanks are not well tolerated by these cute fish.

Hi I have 2 of the elite stingray filters,a large one for my 10g tank and a small one (A140) im currently using also in my 10G to build up the BB for my new 3rd tank.Both filters have two piece of foam inside them,one in the pointed part and one above it.The two locked off compartments are for charcoal filters.
I have taken the smaller filter out of the tank and have taken a pic of it disassembled for you.
