Actually, I can believe that you both had eggs, with Angel getting hers first. Cories like to breed when storms come in (hence the lower water for the water changes you've been doing). Apart from that, they can sense the pressure changes from incoming storms. With Angel being to the west of you and storms generally moving west to east...you get the idea.
