I would definitely remove the Kissing Gourami; profile explains clearly why. The others mentioned might be OK, this is a 55g, but be prepared to move them if the Opaline takes exception as he likely will when they spawn.

Cichlids should never be combined with Gourami, they are way too much alike. You want some quiet peaceful shoaling fish with the gourami. Rasbora work well, there are several species (the medium-sized, avoid the "dwarfs" in Boraras as they will get eaten). Some are in the profiles.

The Electric Yellow Cichlids presumably are rift lake fish, so these need their own tank (= with only rift lake cichlids, and then carefully chosen). They are not community fish as they need hard basic water and have their own traits.

As for the filter, the media should be rinsed as needed to keep it clean and allow the water to flow through basically unimpeded. Replacing media is not usually necessary; it is a ploy to get you to buy more media. IF the pads are such that they begin to lose their shape, they can be replaced since this may prevent the water flowing through them properly.
