As for the filter, the media should be rinsed as needed to keep it clean and allow the water to flow through basically unimpeded. Replacing media is not usually necessary; it is a ploy to get you to buy more media. IF the pads are such that they begin to lose their shape, they can be replaced since this may prevent the water flowing through them properly.
Yea i know i figured it was better then them getting flushed down the drain though! And yes i have live plants, 3 amazon swords 1 crypt and i cannot remember the name of the last one i have.
So what your saying is it will not effect the cycle by cleaning my filter media?
