How much water change in 1 day?

Sounds good. I'll admit, when I first started, I used 10 Tetras to cycle. Bad move, most died and the ones that didn't fought eachother until they had no fins left and the filter sucked them in. It was terrible to see living things suffer like that. One would never think it being new to the hobby, but since ornamental fish are often observed for hours at a time, one begins to sympathize with the agony they are most likely going through (fish do feel pain afaic. Their behavior is utter proof of this). Ever since those Tetras succumbed to my immature tank, I make sure that my water parameters are of the highest quality and it's my priority throughout my daily life. These are living things, they only have one shot at life, I'd prefer my haste and impatience, as well as ignorance, to not be the reason they missed it. : /

I know what you mean - it is sad but you're right, everyone has to learn, and as you learn you will be able to give your fish the excellent home they deserve. It sounds silly and sentimental but I don't think it is as was said, they only get one shot at life.

My guess is still that it hadn't cycled properly, sometimes the effects aren't immediate.

I hope your remaining tetras make it.

I couldn't agree more. I don't want fish to die because of my actions, I want them to live a healthy stress-free life and want to be able to observe them.

No problem.

Just don't be discouraged. It's good to hear you'll be continuing though. If anything, this should boost your desire, since you know what your mistakes were. Now you can only succeed. This exact thing is what turns so many people away from this rewarding and superior hobby - they fail once, and abandon their tanks to an empty existence in the basement or garage.

Keep at it, it will be worth it once you get there.

Well said, Matt.:) Most fish used to cycle the tank are subjected to permanent damage. There's not much you can do with that. There's a lot of benefits when you learn from your mistakes.;)
