How long to wait before adding ghost shrimp after treatment?

This past Sunday I had to euthanize my dear Molly due to what I believe were internal parasites.....I did treat the entire tank, but removed my 5 Ghost shrimp to a separate tank. My question: once I put the carbon filter back in, how long should I wait until I add the shrimp to the main tank again?

48 hours were up Sunday at around 2:15, which is when I added the carbon filter again. I did a 60% WC Monday.....but now I wonder how long I should wait. I still see some residual floating particles from the treatment.....so I was thinking of waiting another week and going through 2 additional water changes.

Any advice is greatly appreciated......thanks!

What med was added?
And which internal parasite were you able to identify?

I used Tetra Parasite Guard.

Molly had white and clear poo.....so after some research I felt that it was internal parasites.....unfortunately, when I treated it seemed to be too late. In the morning she was not swimming around and hiding and by 8:00 that night, she was suffering quite a bit, which is when we decided to put her down.

White stringy poop does not always mean internal parasites are present unless the fish also lost its appetite and weight altogether. Stress and bacterial infections are quite possible. Have you observed anything unusual with your other fish?

Keep carbon for 2-3 days with water changes before you put back the shrimps. I do not think though treatment is necessary at this point until you are sure of what you are dealing with. Nothing much you can do but watch the fish for any symptoms.

Might want to watch out for water parameters. Acriflavine is antibiotic so it can kill your beneficial bacteria. If it were pure prazi treatment only, I do not think I'd object to recommending it for all the fish you have as it is a very mild treatment but still lethal to flukes and tapeworms.

I have 10 Neon Tetras, 2 Dalmation Mollies and 1 albino pleco in the tank, all of whom are behaving normally, eating normally and overall in good health.

Molly had stopped eating a few days before, showing less interest and she just wasn't her usual perky and interested self. She did seem a tiny bit thinner....not a lot but to my eye, she had lost weight. But all that aside, she was no longer swimming upright and was starting to curl in on herself....but thus far, the other fish, especially Jackson and Freckles, the Mollies, are doing well. Thanks so much for your advice.....I have a scheduled WC tomorrow and will probably move the shrimpies in over the weekend. Thanks again!

I think you're better off with pure prazi than any meds with antibiotics included. If I were you, stock Prazipro for emergencies. It's expensive but better than nothing at all. You can order it online.

While we are on this topic, when you say "pure prazi" do you mean Praziquantel or Prazipro, and what's the difference between the two, or are they one and the same?

They're the same. The active ingredient is praziquantel. Droncit is also available in vet clinics.
