How to avoid tipping

Is there a good way to avoid a tank tipping over?

Like something i could put under the stand, something short of cutting out the carpet to have it just sit on the concrete or whatever basement floors are made of. Because my cat jumps on anything he can get to and has an obsession with jumping on top of fish tanks and trying to attack the fish through the glass, he does it on my 46g upstairs and it wobbles just enough to scare me. Telling him no is out of the question cause he doesnt listen to anybody anyway.

A well built stand with a filled tank should not just 'tip over' like that not by a cat anyway, maybe by a big guy pushing it over yea....if anything then i'd try see where your studs run and screw the stand to it if that would ease your mind.

If your tank wobbles, then you could have future leaking problems. But a 45 gallon tank, when all is said and done, weighs close to 450 pounds, with water, substrate, light, stand, etc. So how can a 16 pound cat move a 450 pound object?

Maybe your floor isnt "flat". See if you can put something under one or two corners... I see that being the ONLY reason your cat should be able to make the tank "wobble".

Its not just the jump that makes it wobble, its that he runs around at 20mph then jumps.

You definitely have floor or stand problems that you need to resolve which unfortunately means emptying the aquarium, once you have figured out what is wrong and how to correct it. For a cat jumping to the top of the aquarium, put a large piece of tin foil on top, it doesn't need to be tightly on, just enough to startle the cat when he/she jumps. You can also purchase a unit that lets out a blast of air when it senses something close to it, this is enough to drive a cat away.

I'm also a model railroader and cats can be a problem on "layouts" as they find the items fascinating.

I back up rsn...for one I'd mist the cat with a spray bottle each time he/ she comes close tot he tank; usually takes like 3-4 attempts then they back off from the object.
Then I'd get the level out, check your stand and your floor and work from there, your tank should NOT be moving like that!!! Also see if the center of the stand slightly bows at the center bottom which they often do if they have the funky screw on plastic feeds on the corners, then get yourself a board however thick these feed are (eg 1") and shuff it under the stand.
