Heater trouble

As long as it is consistent, it is fine; it is when it doesn't turn off or acts sporadically that there is trouble. There was another thread recently where it was mentioned that heaters often keep a steady temp but it is different from the setting; some are higher and some lower. I have one that keeps the tank at 78F when it is set at 72F, but it is consistent and not failing, though I still keep my eye on it. If I set it to 76F it will keep the tank around 81F. One reason why the heater (and filter) should always be connected and run for a day or two before adding fish to the tank.

Oh... this is embarrassing... today, my parents looked at the heater (in better light since it was the middle of the day, instead of the middle of the night) and found out that you turn it to the right to turn the temp. down, and left to turn it up... I had it all the way left, because on my other heater that came with my 10 gallon kit (both Aqueon kits, different heaters) it was left to go cooler, right to go hotter... So I plugged it in today (temp. is now about 85) and it stayed off. So it should be working now, and I just saved $25!

Man, that was embarrassing...
