Now I am stuck with cyanobacteria but that's another issue best left for another day and completely unrelated to your problem  | The product is not said by API to clear green water; I'm not saying it won't or didn't, but that is not a claim of API so there could have been other factors involved.
Regardless of that, using these chemicals is not recommended, notwithstanding the manufacturer claims they are not "toxic." I don't know their definition of toxic, but it likely isn't mine. These chemicals clearly stress the fish, and that is not advisable. Stress brings on health problems and the end result could be worse than cloudy or green water. Which after all can be cleared up and prevented by natural means.
I speak from experience with these clarifiers. Years ago I used one and within seconds the fish were huddled in the opposite end of the aquarium. I did a partial water change and eased their stress. API says this product "clumps tiny floating particles together" which is how most of them work. Problem is, the chemical also clumps together the fish's gills, hence the stress. I prefer not stressing out my fish in order to solve another problem. There are many experienced aquarists on this site, more so than I am, who do not advocate the use of these chemicals.
