ginormo driftwood

So... I had this massive piece of driftwood in my 110g that goes floor to ceiling and was probably about 2 feet across. I got it at a going out of business sale for a LFS some time ago for like 15 bucks.

Anyway I thought it might be causing my poor water quality in my 110g but now im not so sure. I cut the piece in half, now, but its been sitting on the floor next to the aquarium for probably a month now give or take a week. my questions are 2 fold...

1) the piece soaked for like 8 weeks prior to going in the tank, still wont sink. any nifty tips besides securing it to slate to get it to sink?

2) I cant really soak it or boil it for that matter, how do I again make it safe to back in the tank? I was going to pour boiling water over it a couple times but i dunno if that would even do any good.

is it the really "bleached" looking wood the kind u see attached to slate normally? i had a piece like that, not nearly the size yours is that took over 3 months to finally sink. some things i did were build rock caves on both ends and use the rocks to hold it down. mine is prolly a foot and half long and about one inch diameter. with something that big though maybe you could tie it off to heavy rocks with fishing line or something like that.

and yeah from what ive ever read here anything you cant boil just pour boiling water over and a few times and you should be fine

you know, i was dead set against screwing it to a piece of slate.... but your idea of using rock caves to sink it might just be frickin brilliant :D ive always been weary of building large caves because its so hard to clean underneath them, but maybe if I use the rock epoxy they sell for fish tanks I could build one big piece.

How about putting it in the bathtub and pouring the boiling water over it. Or fill the bathtub with hot water.

welp, my pleco died today :( but on a lighter note, my severums seem to love having the big driftwood back for something to hide behind. I did the bathtub/boiling water method, so far so good! :)

Glad you got the driftwood in, I always use the "rock caves" method myself.

Another good way to soak it is in a large (unused) trash barrel.
