Fish options with my current Stock?

I only have a single, juvenile Rainbow Shark in my Tank at the moment.

However, I was hoping to get some Denison Barbs, a Opaline Gourami, and maybe a Pleco (If the Pleco would be ok with the Rainbow Shark that is, but only if it is).


The fish stated above are fish I really like the look of, however there is not much information to be found on Denison/Torpedo Barbs, so I thought I would ask here if anyone would be able to recommend fish suitable to live along side them.

You shouldn't combine the Denisons Barb with gourami for three main reasons. First is temperature; the barb needs cooler water. Second, current; the barb need a decent current, gourami will not do well in this. Third, the barb are very active and this stresses out sedate fish.

Check the profile of the barb, click the shaded name, it spells all this out. You want of gropup of 8, and your tank is almost 4 feet so it can work from that aspect. There won't be room for other upper fish, the Rainbow Shark and pleco are fine if the pleco species is OK with cooler water and flow, some are not.

Just be sure you're aware of how big the pleco may get. An alternative that may work better is a bristlenose cat. They stay much smaller. I'm speaking as someone who has had a much loved pleco for almost 9 years who is now 8" long and I just don't know how I'll be able to part with him if he gets to the point he's too big for my tank.

I had a Rainbow Shark with a pleco in a 30gal and they loved each other(fish love), so they sould be fine in tank that size.
