Time to start geting down to the details on my plans for the new setup so I can get my shopping list together and start piecing it all together. The tank's previous owner was running two little HOT Magnums on it - which they did include when I bought it. The fish load they had was pretty minimal (I saw two small common Goldfish
and two small catfish - all under four inches each), so it worked for them, but if I have a 125 gallon tank I am going to have a 125 gallon tank (meaning more fish than that).
The two options I am debating now are:
1 - run the two HOTs and add a decent canister to supplement the HOTs (or the HOTs would supplement the canister, whichever way you want to look at it)
2 - shelve the HOTs all together (would make good back ups as that is what we are using on the other two tanks now, so if one were to fail we would have a back up - or if another tank were to show up on our doorstep looking for a new home
) and get two canisters .
Any thoughts? I am still undecided on what will be going into the tank besides Mr. Awesome (Common Pleco
- currently 8-9 inches in length) but considering what a dirty boy he is I know I need good filtration regardless of who lives with him. I do know that I am leaning towards mostly smaller, less "dirty" types of fish on my list of maybe fishes.
In the past we've had RENA canisters, so I've been looking at those for this set up - any feedback on yay/nay for that?
If this were your tank, WWYD?
