Feeding Fish

There are articles and information about everything in fish keeping, but I haven't really seen much regarding feeding your fish. Right now we've got a 30 gallon tank in its early stages with just several Zebra Danios. My questions are:

What should I be feeding them?
How often should I be feeding?

Right now I have Tetra fish flakes and some dried bloodworms. I tend to feed them the bloodworms more because they just go crazy over them. I fairly certain I don't overfeed them at any given feeding because I put just enough in to where they'll eat it all within 2-3 minutes. But I give them some food in the morning, then some at night before going to bed. Is this too much? Should I feed them once a day, or every other? They always seems hungry, so I'm not sure.

It's a matter of preference really. Many people feed their fish once a day, and have a day of fasting them each week, while others feed twice per day.

Another considering factor is the type of fish. Some larger fish can eat a large meal and then not require feeding again for a couple of days or so.

For my community tank, I feed once per day in the evening. I alternate between flakes, frozen bloodworm, daphnia and vegetables. And I never feed them on Sundays.

I will second what Kate said.

I would not give them dried blood worms as the primary diet though. Too much protein and it is always better to vary their diets more than that. Maybe every other day bllodworms to flakes. Call always try different fruits and veggies to see which ones they like also.

Variation is really the best. Fish do well with all different types of food. It does also really depend on the fish, some are mostly vegetarian, whereas others require loads of protein. A constant diet of blood worms and other such high fat food does tend to cause bloating and constipation. The one thing I've found is that the 'color enhancing' flakes tend to be lower in nutritional value than normal flakes. I generally try to find things that have the most ingredients I recognize and no food dies. There's some really great recipes for fish food in the DIY section.

The main thing I do when feeding is turn down my filters, and I go by the rule better to under feed than over feed. A hungry fish is better than one with nasty water. LOL
