Does anyone have any live plant sugestions?

I am currently re thinking the design of my 30"x12" tank as i am sick of my plants dying, and the constant dead leaves and up rooting they are doing.
I am upgrading my light from a single 15 watt tube, to a double 24 watt T5, which is going to be sat above a glass lid for design.
I am also very much considering a CO2 system to aid with the plant growth, but i want some fascinating and different plants, and im clueless with names.
Here is a picture of the tank half a year ago, most of the plants have died now and it looks alot worse for wear :(

I'm wanting to find the name of the large plant in the middle. its white around the outside of the leave and a light green on the inside.
I also would like something red, and something a bit like dwarf baby tear drops...

Any sugestions?

The plant you identify is a terrestrial plant, a Dracanea, which will not last long submersed. It is not an aquatic species, so that is why it died.

I have been looking into aquascaping recently and I've desided on a garden type theme.
Dwarf grass on the most part, gravel, slate, bogwood. Gravel making a pathway up the centre, but which plants can i use as 'trees and bushes' to fill it out?

Moss balls would prolly work for both. You can open up most moss balls and spread them out and tie them to decorations.
