Do you name your fish?

I laughed to myself this morning as I walked into the office and began talking to my fish. I call many by name. Not all of them have names. The Corie's for instance mostly look alike and other then the smallest one that I call "Squirt" they are just "Corie's" to me.

My largest Sunset Blushing Angel is of course "Angel"
The smaller one is " LA" for little Angel (not too original, I know)
Marble Angel is "Marble"
Black is "Black"
Gold Platinum is "Tux"
Opaline is "Blue"
Dwarf Flame point Gourami is "Two tone"
Sailfin pleco "Sailor"
Rainbow Shark is "Shy boy"
My Favorite Guppy was "junior" she recently passed away. The whole female pregnant thing and the reason I am getting out of guppies. I can't stand the breeding and losing such a wonderful little girl.

I never set out to name any of my fish but when I look at them and chat with them, I find myself identifying each of them as individuals. Do any of you guys name any of your fish? The fish where I have large groups do not get names just due to identifying each as an individual is harder.

i definitely name every one of my fish! they are all in my tag, so i wont reiterate them, but it might be easier for me because i only have bettas, so i get to know them personally and can tell them apart easily. :) though alot of my girls are going to be in a sorority soon, so i wonder how ill fair at telling them apart then! i could understand not giving really individual names to a group of fish that look alike though, telling thm apart would be murder lol (kind of like how i named my snails slugger and the tag alongs, because when i first saw a snail in my tank i named it slugger, and then i saw the 20+ more snails and was like....never gonna happen lol)

Like you, Inga, I only have names for some of my fish but not all of them. (and I talk to my fish too ). My Ctenopoma is "Spook", my Bettas are "Reno" and "Pepper", my large angel is "Angel", my Synspillum is "Punk", and my newest fish, a 7" Green Terror, is "Goober". Sadly, my pleco "Hershey" recently passed away (RIP Hershey).

Yeah, it is far too hard to tell all my cories apart. I laughed at the name "slugger" for a snail, that is perfect. ha ha

I am sorry to hear about Hershey. It is always sad to find a dead fish, even worse to watch one suffering and not be able to figure out what is wrong with them. We are both so original with our large Angelfish named "Angel". lol

I only name my platys and at that only when they are pregnant, and you can probably guess the two names I go with are preggo and little momma.

But I do talk to all my fish ( or myself) even though they don't have names...

I dont name my fish unless there is something very defining. We picked up some pearl danios last week and one of them was very deformed so we named it gimpy. Dont expect it to live long unfortuantly.. but so far it's keeping up with the rest so who knows. We had a goldfish that came with out 35g tank, it was about 10 years old and had lost all coloring.. and it seems a few scales as well. I called it ugly. Gave it to the LFS when we picked up the danios. Some one took it home as a pond fish.

haha you guys make me feel like the crazy fish lady xDD i know the circumstances are different but im the only one so far that names all of their fish xDD

I use to name my fish, these days the only fish that has a name is my betta (named Lassie because he likes to herd the rasboras into a group when he is bored or they are getting on his nerves). After I started getting into shoaling fish more I lost the ability to figure out who was who. Oh, my mystery snail is named too, Speedy. And my gourami is named Ginger, but she will be re-homed in a couple of weeks.

When I talk to my fish, if they dont have a name, I just say "lil guy" or "lil girl" if I can easily tell the sex (like I can with my cherry barbs).
