That's exactly what I intend to do.
I just finished the hood yesterday and attached a plexiglass cover on the bottom of it. I did cover each screw with silicone but I noticed it(the plexi) had bowed badly. I zipped 3 more screws in to seal it tightly but I didn't want to leave the tank uncovered, all night, while I was at work, so I was mainly concerned with the short term.
