Everyone knows that tanks can be expensive to set up and to buy in the first place, but i've never seen anything about how much it costs to run one. I'm not very electrically minded but i wouldn't have thought that they burn too much electricity, especially in the warmer months whan the heaters don't heve to run as much.

I only ask as my housemate has been complaining that i should pay mor eof the leccy bill as we have 4 tanks running at the mo. They have a 150w, a 200w a 10w an a 35w heaters, a fluval 1, 2+, 4+ and an eheim professional 1 filters as well as an 8w, 30w, 50w and 60w of lights, that run for 5hrs, 5,hrs 7hrs and 5hrs respectively. Is this gonna be excessive in leccy consumption

Using my electricity rates, and assuming you have an off peak rate at night, your whole set up there costs approx 94p/day. I assume your rates are similar to mine. It won't be the same company since I am with Scottish Power but I really can't see there being a huge difference in rates. The heaters are the killer and in your case account for over 70% of the total charge.

Sorry, I went to edit that but was too late. You ahd already replied. It's probably more likr 61p/day as I find my heater is on/off roughly half and half.

Tarrifs for me are 10.674Kw/hour peak and 4.607kw/hour off peak so I just pushed in some numbers into the old calculator and got that answer.
