Changing Filter Types

Why are you cleaning the filter like that? It doesn't need a scrub down and giving it a soapy scrub is dangerous. Soap is toxic to fish and the anti-bacterial agents in many are bad news for the bacteria your filter depends on. With the few small fish you have there shouldn't be any kind of significant gunk building up in the filter. If the impeller is getting gummed up just rinse it. The filters are the only other thing that will impede flow in the filter and a quick rinse will take care of most of that. Aeration is not going to be too much of an issue with your bioload. So long as the surface is being disturbed you're fine.

I'm not trying to be overly bossy, I just don't want to see you spend all the money on a canister filter that really won't fix anything for you.

If you're really looking into breeding the fish you'll have to look into setting up a breeding tank so that you can have an environment that will be well set up for them to lay their eggs in then immediately remove the adults and raise the fry in a separate tank. As far as I know danios will be pretty rough on their young if they're in the same tank. You'll likely have a few survivors if you provide lots of hiding places but not many.

I don't use soap. I use dechlorinated water. I float the bio wheels in the aquarium while I clean the Emperor. Whether there should or should not be build up well, there is, and behind the output part on the glass too. Keeping it clean helps to keep the dirt out of the UV thing, which I was told had to stay clean or it wouldn't work correctly. It may not need a complete cleaning every month but it's my routine, and my other fish didn't suffer from it. You would think that cleaning a canister, which is essentially a bucket, would be easier than cleaning all of the chambers in the Emperor. But all of this is a non-issue now, because I've decided not to change filters.

Also, I believe it's illegal to breed GloFish on purpose. If you get survivors in your main tank that's one thing, but if you purposefully breed them to the point where you've gotta sell some back to the store or something, you could get in big trouble with the company that owns the rights to GloFish.

I'm not worried about getting in trouble. I only hope some of the babies survive, and if I get too many, I'll give them away. If I can't find anyone maybe someone here will take them? But from what I hear, it's going to be an uphill battle just to prevent them from being eaten...

Hi again. I called the seller on the bowfront, and she didn't seem to think it would fit because it was made for a different brand of tank. Mine is an "All Glass" brand. I appeciate your help though.

For anyone else looking for a glass bow front canopy for a 46 gallon, All Glass tank, here's what you do....

Go to Aqueon Products Hinged Glass Tops

Click on the pdf catalog (on the right). Find your canopy (mine is Item # 29604), and write down the model number.

They don't sell direct, so you have to go back to the main page and click on "Locate a Store." Put your location in and it will find the nearest ones that carry "Aqueon" their products.

Then you can call the store and ask them to order it for you. Give them the model number, etc. The lady at Aqueon said to call one of the small, independent fish stores, because the larger ones like PetSmart won't order them for you.
